Hi,
Fancy a digital library on your palm? I am working on a case study for
the JISC ELF d+ project (http://devil.lib.ed.ac.uk) to show how
different portal presentations can be derived from the project search
engine and reference demonstrator.
The case study is a minimalist skinny widget modelling on a Google
service (http://www.google.com/palm ) optimised for PDA access via
WI-FI (not WAP!). The widget uses the d+ engine and facilitates
exemplary searching of Edinburgh University Library, RDN and
ePrints-UK. The latter allows users to download e-prints directly to
their PDA. The EUL search also fetches the relevant local holding
details. The search results are optimised for PDA screen and for
minimal scrolling.
Attached are a few screenshots showing the widget at work (using a
Pocket PC emulator). If you have a PDA with a web browser, you can test
the widget at: http://devil.lib.ed.ac.uk/pda . Would be interested in
the results..
Best.
