The last time I used CHART in earnest was 1991.
Let's see.
% chart

would set up the search parameters and display the parameters. You
shouldn't need the catalogues for that. Then you try to create a list
of field centres with the FCREATE command. Next you'd search
(impossible without the catalogues) then list (LISTO) or PLOTO the
results. You proably have also set the output parameters with OSET.
There were ways to save the settings to files (CHARTPAR.DAT I think).
There was a choice of catalogue to plot. In addition to the three
mentioned (an astrometric one from RGO, CSI from CDS, non stellar
objects from Dixon. At this point I thought I'd better see if I have
the document. Yes I do have SUN/32.11 from the VMS days.

Correct.
You could also have a private catalogue, provided it was
in the appropriate format, see EXAMPLE.FOR (example.f now?).
that may be a way of testing.
I may have backup tapes with these catalogues on. However, they're
probably in a VMS binary format anyway. The last time I saw them was on
STADAT.
I suppose that these catalogues or modern equivalents could be
made available from CDS, but is it worth it? Clive?
