SPUTNIK - MONTHLY DIGEST OF SOVIET PRESS.
This ran for many years as a pocket sized monthly journal, well illustrated and in my opinion with
much interesting material about all aspects of the USSR. Literature and culture were well
represented Founded in 1967, Sputnik reflected how the USSR wished to present itself to the world.
It was printed in Finland in Russian and European languages (except for a period of about a year
when the English edition was published by Mirror group, with some interesting variations in format
and content), and readers could subscribe to English and Russian editions as a language learning
aid.
Halfway through 1999 the journal was re-launched as a Russian-only weekly tabloid newspaper
subtitled "Weekly digest of the Russian press".
THE FOLLOWING SETS OF THE JOURNAL ARE AVAILABLE FREE TO ANYONE INTERESTED, new owner to collect or
pay carriage please. The collection is accompanied by a folder with copies of contents lists of
nearly all issues of Sputnik from 1967-2 to 1970-11, and then copies of the classified yearly
indexes for 1971 through 1976.
