Dear All,
If you are involved in social and health care research you will invariably
be aware of the impending Department of Health research governance. In order
to provide our membership the opportunity to participate in the present
debate with the Department of Health, Julienne Meyer and I have organised
the following symposium exemplifying how governance impacts on research in
care homes.
BSG Conference Symposium:
Thursday, 9 September (16.15 - 17.45)
Social Care Research Governance: Taking an all-round perspective
Organisers:
Julienne Meyer, City University ([log in to unmask])
Ingrid Eyers, University of Surrey ([log in to unmask])
The symposium will be chaired by Julienne Meyer and the speakers will be:
Department of Health: Carol Lupton
Local Authority: Peter Crowther, Merton Social Services
Care home manager: David Bolton, Holmsdale Housing
Health and Social Care Researcher: Charlotte Ashburner, City University
Abstract:
This symposium will present Social Care Research Governance from the
following four perspectives: the Department of Health as the organisation
providing governance; Local Authorities as the intermediary between social
care research and service provider; a care home proprietor/manager as
service provider; and a representative of the health and social research
community. The aim is to exemplify how Social Care Research Governance
impacts on social care research and will be informative to all researchers
working in the field of social care provision. The presentations and the
following discussion will be informative to all parties involved as all
research proposals submitted to the Department of Health from July onwards
will need to show how ethical aspects of the research are accommodated and
research governance provided by the state is adhered to.
If this is an issue that relates to your area of research please do attend
this symposium on Thursday afternoon.
Best Wishes
Ingrid
