DCMI has three recommendations for expressing "structured values":
http://dublincore.org/documents/dcmi-box/
http://dublincore.org/documents/dcmi-period/
http://dublincore.org/documents/dcmi-point/
But they describe only how to represent instances as plain text literals (using
the DCSV convention) or as XML.
This means that the component parts of such a structured value are not directly
accessible to an RDF application - the literal requires additional parsing by a
DCSV or XML parser.
Is there any plan to assign URIrefs to the "components" described in these
structured value recommendations - or indeed, find existing non-DCMI
vocabularies already in use and describe how they can be applied to these
cases - so that they can be used as RDF properties and the information is
explicitly available in the RDF graph?
There would need to be some careful re-modelling of some aspects (e.g.
units/zunits as these are associated with other components not with the value
as a whole - reflected in the use of XML attributes in the current XML
encoding), but it should be do-able, I think?
If there isn't any current interest, is this something that could be added to
this group's workplan for next year?
Cheers
Pete
