Brunel University
Department of Design & Systems Engineering
Research Lectureship in Human Factors (Vacancy ref: DDA0167/1)
(5 year fixed term appointment in the first instance)
Salary: Lecturer A scale (£22,954 - £27,327pa) / Lecturer B scale (£27,174 - £34,838 pa) plus £1,814 London Allowance
Brunel University is collaborating with a consortium of defence companies (Aerosystems International, Lockheed Martin, MBDA, and SEA) and Universities (Birmingham, and Cranfield) on the Human Factors Integration Defence Technology Centre. A large part of Brunel's effort will be in the development and testing of team working, a virtual reality command and control centre in the prestigious BIT lab based at the Uxbridge campus. This laboratory houses state-of-the-art synthetic environment technology and software. We are looking for a Research Lecturer to join our group in this exciting project. The research group at Brunel is led by Professor Neville Stanton in the School of Engineering and Design.
The post holder will be expected to be competent in Human Factors methods (e.g. task analysis, observational techniques, experimental approaches, data analysis using SPSS and report writing). It is expected that the post holder will have a Doctoral degree in Human Factors together with a minimum of four refereed papers in Human Factors and Ergonomics research journals. The post holder will have to undergo security clearance for working on a defence contract and therefore will have to be a British national.
The post holder will also be expected to prepare and submit research proposals for funding as well as journal papers for publication in academic, peer-reviewed, journals. Teaching and administrative duties will be light, but the post-holder will be expected to run an undergraduate course on Cognitive Ergonomics and supervise student projects. The teaching-research split for this post is 30:70.
The post will be on a five year fixed term contract initially, with the potential for a permanent appointment (subject to the availability of funding and track record of the candidate).
Closing date for applications: 30 July 2004. Interviews are likely to be held in September 2004. Informal enquires can be made to Professor Neville Stanton at [log in to unmask]
