Proposals for nominations by the SPA and JUC for membership of RAE 2008 assessment panel are now invited
The SPA and JUC would like to invite proposals for nominations to both the main panel ‘J’ and to the sub-panel UoA 40.
Anyone interested in being nominated by the SPA and JUC should read the document on the latest guidance www.rae.ac.uk/pubs/2004/03/ and complete the electronic nomination form provided. Completed nomination forms should be emailed to Catherine Bochel (SPA Hon. Secretary, [log in to unmask]) by 29th August 2004.
The RAE documentation draws attention to the following, which candidates should bear in mind:
- ‘We would also welcome nominations for people to be additional members of the main panels on the basis of their experience in using and commissioning research conducted in higher education while working at a senior level in business or the public sector’ (para 39)
- ‘Wherever possible, at least a third of the members of each sub-panel should have previous RAE panel experience’ (para 43)
- Also see the criteria listed in para 43.
It is intended that a small committee from the SPA and JUC will discuss nominations in early September. In addition to the requirements listed in the RAE documentation the SPA and JUC committee will be looking to take account of the following criteria: gender balance; national/regional representation; an appropriate balance between ‘old’ and ‘new’ universities and representation from all main subject specialisms. The committee may approach other potential nominees.
Those nominated will be informed by mid September. The committee cannot enter into further discussion about nominations.
Please note that I will be on leave until the end of August. Anyone with questions should refer to www.rae.ac.uk <http://www.rae.ac.uk/> .
