Dear Colleagues
I have been invited to take part in a Research Workshop hosted by the
University of Sheffield, Department of Information Studies. However, I am
unable to attend.
The event is to take place on Tuesday August 3rd, at the British Library,
St Pancras, London between 1000 and 4.00pm. The title is 'Relevant
repositories of public knowledge? Perceptions of archives, libraries and
museums in modern Britian.'
If anyone would like to attend and represent LIRG I would be most grateful -
expenses will be met by the project. The event will comprise an
introduction to the project, and a presentation of the preliminary
qualitative reseach findings. These will be followed by thematic group
discussions and a plenary.
The project is AHRB funded, and will investigate where the traditional
repositories of public knowledge about "Britains big issues" are, as well
as their use "within a broader societal context".
The questions to be answered are related to the perceived value by the
public of museums, archives and libraries for understanding socio-
political issues, their actual usage for this purpose and analysis of any
difference in perception and use.
Please get back to me asap if you would like to attend (Kerry Wilson, the
Researcher on this project felt that it might be good to have someone with
a Public Library background attend). They need to know by 19th July.
Biddy
