Try "Cycling and urban mode choice" by Wardman, Nash, Tight and Page.
Go to www.regard.ac.uk and do a search on "Cycling and urban mode
choice". It compares not only different modes, but different people.
It's for Brit's, and so might not be very applicable elsewhere
Other places that might (no guarantees) be worth looking at are Todd
Litmann's Victoria Transportation Policy Institute www.vtpi.org, or
Dave Mozer's International Bicycle Fund www.ibike.org
I hope this helps.
Waaay off topic, and definitely not helpful, but amusing
nevertheless, you can get a different take on money, time, and
cycling, from the catalogue of Butterfield and Robinson, the company
that all those dotcom millionaires use for their bike touring
vacations. see www.butterfield.com
