I think it's fine for asides to carry on off-list to reduce the flood of
email in peoples' inboxes. We're keen to keep as many potential users
subscribed to the list as possible and so should avoid posting all the
minutiae to the general list as appropriate. There are two caveats:
Where a discussion comes back onto the list after a private exchange it
would be useful to quote the context.
Where a conclusion to a posted issue is reached off-list, we shoud
endeavour to post the solution to the list so others know it is resolved
and so that we have a record of it.
