An essential guide to the cataloguing process for staff whose work
includes elements of cataloguing. The course is appopriate both for
recently-qualified professional staff or experienced library assistants
who may be undertaking cataloguing.
What does it cover?
At the end of the day delegates will
* be able to identify the elements of a catalogue record
* know how to check personal and corporate name headings
* be able to construct a new catalogue record for basic books and
* be able to understand a MARC formatted bought-in catalogue
* know where to find further information
The course is interactiveand includes hands-on examples. It is not
designed around any specific catalogue utility. The course is backed
up with comprehensive handouts.
Who should attend?
Any memer of library staff whose work includes some element of
cataloguing material - whether from bought-in records or at a basic
'original cataloguing' level.
