The ESRC is currently undertaking another major strategic review of FUTURE
DIRECTIONS FOR SOCIAL SCIENCE.
The Social Policy Association has been invited to contribute to the review.
We would like to seek the views of SPA members and the wider social policy
community to inform our response. We've been asked to address four questions:
1) What do you consider to be the main achievements of research in social
policy over the last 10 years? (remember this can include the wide range of
policy areas that colleagues are working in - health, crime, urban policy
etc etc)
2) Views on the most exciting intellectual challenges facing social science
over the next 10 years
3) Views on which of these challenges we might expect signficant new
knowledge to be generated by researchers working in the UK
4) How the ESRC can best secure these contributions.
The letter from the ESRC points out that new ESRC priorities emerging from
this consultation could embrace: specific investments in exciting areas of
social science research; connecting social science research with advances
in other disciplines; enhancement of opportunities at critical career
stages; investments in continuing development of research skills; and
innovation in data sources and methods.
We are looking for responses by MONDAY JUNE 7TH. Please feel free to send
me any views, on any of these questions to: [log in to unmask]
