medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I just noticed that my earlier posting (which I made at 05:11 a.m., when I was
apparently not yet awake enough to be cogent) could be misconstrued. Instead of
"originally," I should have said "an earlier version."
I realize that variations in the conclusion to the (Proper) Preface have
included "Et ideo cum angelis," "quam laudant angeli," "per quem majestatem
tuam laudant angeli," "quem laudant angeli," etc., and the unique "Quapropter
(varies). . . sed et supernĉ virtutes atque angelicae."
The latter, by the way, is also included in the Latin liturgy of 1560, for
Pentecost, in the variation of "Quapropter profusis gaudiis totus in orbe
terrarum mundus exutat, sed et supernĉ virtutes atque Angelicĉ potestates
hymnum gloriĉ tuĉ concinunt, sind fine dicentes,".
