medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
[fishing for something, i have cross posted this to the medart list]
dear All,
i've become somewhat perversely attracted to a c. 1000 Sacramentary from the
abbey of St. Peter's of Chartres, formerly Chartres B.m., ms 577.
it appears that the ms was here,

in May of 1944, but at least two photographs of it have survived and have been
published, and they give us an idea of illuminations which are particularly
interesting, from a stylistic point of view:

i am concerned with trying to understand the style "behind" the somewhat
incoherent manifestation of it we have in these two illuminations.
but i am also interesting in assembling any information about the ms which i
can get.
the local historian/liturgist/art historian Yves Delaporte published both of
the above leaves, the first in his _Les Manuscrits de Chant liturgique de la
Bibliothéque municipale de Chartres_ (in the series Paléographie Musicale,
XVII, 1958) ; and the second in his "Les Manuscrits enluminés de la
Bibliothèque de Chartres" (in _Le Cinquantenaire de la Société
Archéologique d'Eure-et-Loir, 1906, 14-27 Mai, 31 Mai et 2, 3, et 4 Juin_.
Chartres, [1906], II, no. XXVI, pp. 180-1).
i have also consulted the cursory entry in Charles Omont and Auguste
Molinier's _Catalogue général des Manuscrits des Bibliothéques de France,
Départements, tome XI, Chartres_ (Paris, 1890).
but, specifically, i would like to see the entry in Victor Leroquais' _Les
sacramentaires et les missels manuscrits des bibliothèques publiques de
France_ (Paris, 1924).
which book is not in my library, nor on the B.n.'s Gallica site
(http://gallica.bnf.fr).
is there a charitable soul on this list who has access to it and to a scanner
and would be willing to scan the appropriate pages and send me legible .jpgs
of them?
and, if anyone happens to know anything about this ms (or the scriptorium of
St. Peter's at this time), i would be happy to hear of it.
any help greatly appreciated, of course.
best from here,
christopher
