for more information on the protected status of Thornborough try
English HEritage's NMR (or even us). In a nutshell the henges themselves
are Scheduled, as is some of the land between them, and therefore they
extremely unlikely to be quarried, but the landscape around them (of
debated importance) is being considered for further quarrying, though as
far as I am aware no formal proposals have been presented to the
planners responsible yet.
Also check out the Friends of Thornborough site
http://www.friendsofthornborough.org/, but bear in mind their
particular viewpoint may put a spin on things (as does anyones -
contrary to popular belief, Tony Blair didn't invent spin, he was just
more obvious about it. Back in the day it used to be called hidden
agenda/bias/political leaning etc). With that in mind see also
which give additional information. All of which should/might lead you to
the conclusion that things are not as simple as they first appear!
hope that helps

Last night I watched an unusually good edition of "Time Flyers"
concerning the Thornborough henges. This morning out of interest I
looked up this monument on the Modern Antiquarian pages and was most
shocked to read a number of posts claiming that this site is threatened
by quarrying! Surely these claims are untrue, it seems incredible that
anyone should even consider the destruction of such an important site.
I was therefore wondering if anyone had more information regarding the
protected status of Thornborugh? Anyway good work Time Flyers in
bringing to public attention a site that's both as fascinating and
important as Stonehenge!
