Back in 1996 I started collecting, transcribing and posting news stories with records management or archival content or connections to two listservs here in the US -- archives and recmgmt-l. I started this little venture to point how prevalent records and archives are in even the ordinary press. Over time I have modified the search process several times first reviewing online newspapers daily, then discovering speciality search engines that searched only news websites to finally using Google News Alerts exclusively. I currently have about 15 such alerts running automatically. Each afternoon i receive the results in individual emails. I review and capture stories that interest me and may be of interests to others. I capture the stories using Adobe Acrobat and maintain my own 'archive' of stories.
the items I post represent only a small portion of what I received daily. After doing this for close to 8 years I have a new found respect for what a newspaper goes through on a daily basis.

this has turned out to be what folks enjoy most. They receive information that they can use. I cann't count the number of times I've received similar messages (privately) of how folks have used the stories.

Several websites in the US use the stories from my postings on their websites. All they need to do is use the links and credit the correct source. I would be glad to provide instructions on how to set up specific Google News Alerts for them.
I'm always glad to hear how folks have used the stories in their day to day work.
