You're mentioning an empirical attitude toward pain management reminded me
of something I wrote a few years ago that can be found at

empiricism in alternative practices." This points out the pitfalls of this
approach when done in isolation. Take a look at it. I think it will
encourage you to consider how knowing more may make us see things
differently. In any case, I'm sure your patients appreciate your clinical
skills and genuine interest in their recovery. Nothing replaces that.
