BIGF, or the British Isles GPS archive Facility, is the single long-term UK
archive for GPS data from close to 60 continuously recording GPS stations
sited throughout mainland UK, including the Ordnance Survey of Great
Britain active stations. Archive resources are available free of charge to
the academic community.
The number of archive users has grown from 6 in 2001, to 19 in 2002, to 40
in 2003 and 30 in the first 3 months of 2004 alone. Recent users are
working in these areas:
Ocean tide loading;
Tropospheric water vapour content (for weather forecasting);
Vertical land movement and sea level;
Establishment of high-order accuracy stations;
Coastal erosion and deformation monitoring;
Flood defence and alleviation;
Biological feature monitoring;
Wildlife tracking;
Space weather ... ... and many others
