The Scottish Council on Archives(SCA)met at the National Library, Edinburgh
on Thursday 4th March 2004. A summary report from the meeting from the RMS
representative is noted below. Minutes of the meeting and further details

SCA will be held on 3rd June. Any RMS member wishing to comment on any

An update on the progress of the s60 Code of Practice for FoI and the fees
regulations was provided by the Scottish Executive. It is hoped that the
fees regulations will be published in the near future for consultaion.
The SIC's recent guidance on information held in libraries and archives in
relation to the FoI Act was also discussed and potential problems

An update was also provided on the recent workshops on the development of

Archives/records user symposia were discussed, feedback provided from the
user symposia held for famil/local history which had proved successful and
useful to all attendees. The organisation of future symposia was discussed.
The collection of standardised statistics for archives was agreed, with
ASLAWG (Archivists of Scottish Local Authorities Working Group) taking the
lead on this matter.
It was reported that the NCA isestablishing a short-term working group on
the preservation of electronic records. Representatives will be sent from
the NAS and the SCA.
Press and publicity was discussed, with suggestions made for future events.
