The longest files I've transcribed using Transcriber are about 2.5 hrs.
They were mono MP3s sampled at 22.05kHz and using a resolution of 16bits
(i.e. 32kbps MP3s). I think the program is somewhat senitive to the amount
of decoding work it has to do. In the user guide the developers say "access
to MP3 format can be slow due to the compression." I do seem to remember
that we had an issue on one PC when we were using stereo MP3s (64kbps). I
imagine this issue may also depend on the speed of the computer. WAV files
may be a safer option although they will use a lot more storage space.
