Thank you everyone for your advice - quick hand analysis of the data yields
the following summary:
1. Think of them as a file
a. file transfer via ftp
b. split file using utility such as Total Commander or
Zip
2. Convert them & chop them up
a. convert to .WAV or MP3 files using converter - ACE
audio converter recommended (www.audio-converter.com)
b. chop up .WAV files with
'Transcriber'http://www.etca.fr/CTA/gip/Projets/Transcriber/en/download142.h
tml
or Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/.
3. Avoid producing large files
a. stop & start digital recorder more often to spread
each interview over several smaller files
I'll try various of these suggestions and report back on my progress
Thanks again
Martin
