Thank you very much for these useful resources!
I have been seeking information on the conceptualisation and status of children with autism in China, following a distressing report from an American of my acquaintance who travelled there about 4 years ago to speak to doctors about nutritional supplements, of all things. He encountered several massive and bleak hospitals full of "warehoused" children with autism and/or learning difficulties. He was told that families are pressured to give up children to the state if they have disabilities seen as "serious," presumably to prevent loss of productivity and worker mobility due to caring duties. The doctors whispered that "worse things" were being done in rural areas...
I have since heard similar reports from Chinese colleagues, although they've been short on detail and without references that I can follow up. The only research related to the topic that's been translated into English as far as I know is a recent study on tongue acupuncture (ouch!) as a possible treatment.
Any info or thoughts?
