David, I do think it is worth now looking at the
implications of taking this forward, and I support your
idea of using this list as your reference/ steering group =
about as participatory as we are likely to get. We can
also put aside some time for discussion at the conference
if people feel this would be useful.
Like others, I personally have mixed views about whether on
balance it would be useful to end up with a BPS section -
in terms of the balance of the equation - how much energ/
time sapping would the bureacracy be, and for what gain in
terms of social justice and promotion of well-being for
people in communities? I also share with others the
worries about developing self-interested professionalism at
the expense of lay people.
If we did go forward with it I would certainly hope
that we would continue to have a pluralistic approach to
promoting and enabling the development of community
psychology. But debate about these issues is what would
happen through your proposed consultation with the list
members, david; thank you for being willing to take this
work forward on our collective behalf...as Jan says, we
would need to review the aspiration as the process and its
consequnces emerge.
Could we collectively begin to generate our thoughts about
the potential pros and cons of such a development?
