Further to Gavin's counter-curmudgeon commendations of Sidney's
style, I regularly recommend to able but artless students that they
read the Arcadia, well of English utterly, sublimely defiled. They
usually come back clogged, I admit; but as the Roman cobbler said, as
proper men as ever trod upon neat's leather have gone upon his
handiwork.
