Advice on transcription
This year we will transcribing hundreds of interviews that need to be analyzed quickly. It might make sense for us to look at how to transcribe in-house using the transcription software rather than having a service get involved. From a cost and efficiency outlook I am wondering which course of action will be the most productive, doing the transcribing here or having it sent out. Currently, we use N4 on MACs, and we are purchasing new digital recorders based on the advice posted recently on this list. We want to move to a more updated version, but N6/NVIVO only runs on PCs. Our current question, though, is whether or not it is worthwhile to do our transcribing here, using transcription software, or if it makes more sense to pay others to transcribe. What we save on transciptionists costs, may be used to have someone hired to do the work necessary to transcibe from sound files. Does anyone have any advice on next steps to take? Thanks in advance.
