Hi Sarah,
A few years ago an unlisted workhouse (later a hospital) was redeveloped for
housing in Winchester, although here some of the buildings were retained. The
original workhouse was a Sampson Kempthorne 'Y' plan, surrounded by single
storey structures to form a hexagon. A programme of historic building
recording (plans / photographic record and a written report tied into an
earlier historial analysis), was undertaken prior to any demolition /
conversion.
I have just been contacted by the County Record Office for information on
the survey work undertaken, for use in developing an educational programme
focusing on this site. This may be something that could be developed for
your site, either as part of the current proposals or in the future.
If you want I can supply further details regarding the recording work
undertaken and a contact at the Hampshire Record Office.
Tracy
