Dear colleagues,

Please keep in mind that the deadline for receipt of abstracts for the ISA

Sociology:
Diversity and Change in a Global World" at the University of Surrey is
February 1, 2004. Please find the detailed call for papers below:

Call for Papers

International Sociological Association - RC-11 Sociology of Ageing
Inter-Congress Conference

Ageing Societies and Ageing Sociology:
Diversity and Change in a Global World

7-9th September 2004

University of Surrey Roehampton, UK
Hosted by the Centre for Research on Ageing and Gender (CRAG), University of
Surrey, UK

Ageing societies are a historically unique and global phenomenon, which
calls for intensified scientific research into the consequences of this
worldwide development in the years to come: What will ageing societies look
like? In which regards will they differ from contemporary societies? How
does ageing affect social institutions and social structures? Does ageing
imply a shift in power and new patterns of allocating and re-distributing a
society’s resources? How does ageing affect different social groups? Do we
need new social policies to cope with the new demands of ageing populations?
Which factors does quality of life in old age depend on? What are the
implications of ageing societies in different regional, national, and
international contexts?

We invite abstracts for any of the topics outlined above or any other topic
related to the conference theme of “Ageing Societies and Ageing Sociology:
Diversity and Change in a Global World”. Papers with a cross-national,
comparative focus and papers by researchers earlier in their career are
particularly welcomed. Papers may be presented orally or as a poster.

This call for papers has a deadline for receipt of abstracts by 1 February
2004. Abstracts of a maximum of 200 words should be sent to:
Andreas Hoff, Chair of the Programme Committee, at [log in to unmask]

Abstracts MUST include:
• Name(s) and affiliation(s) of the author(s)
• Contact details of presenting author (postal address, telephone, fax +
email)
• Title of the proposed presentation
• Indicate whether an oral paper or poster presentation

Please note that individuals should not be the first author (the presenter)
of more than one paper. Details of the Plenaries and Symposia as well as
conference fees are on the conference website:
http://www.soc.surrey.ac.uk/crag/ISA2004/index.htm

The Inter-Congress Conference will immediately precede the British Society
of Gerontology (BSG) conference held at the same venue from September 9-11.

BSG conference fee. For more details of the BSG conference please visit
