Yes

lcfg.dur.scotgrid.ac.uik:/opt/local/linux/7.3 on /export/local/linux/7.3
/dev/hda2 on /root type ext3 (rw)
/dev/hda1 on /root/boot type ext3 (rw)

I get a message
Syncing disk
Re-Read table failed with error 16: Device or resource busy

From experience I know that is normally caused by fdisk trying to update
the partition table while having partitions mounted. I umounted /root
and /root/boot and ran it again and got the same error.

Do you have any documentation on how the install system hangs together?

Mark.
