medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
All of the 'foundation myths of Spanish-Portuguese and Franco-German Jewries
have them living in their respective locations as a result of the
destruction of the First Temple in 586 BCE. As a result, they argue, their
ancestors could not have been rersponsible for the death of Jesus. In one
version, Seder HaDorot of Yehiel Halperin, they try to intervene with
Pilate. (I"ll have to check the reference). Needless to say, none of these
stories helped at all in fending off deicide accusations.
