Hello all,

Apologies for the lull in activity...

The next meeting of the DCMI Usage Board is in mid-March, and our plan
is to propose a number of terms as candidates for the dcterms
vocabulary.

The procedure for submission of term proposals is described here

http://dublincore.org/usage/documents/approval/

and here

http://dublincore.org/usage/documents/process/#four.

The terms we decided were potentially applicable to the general class of
resources were those currently labelled with the gen: prefix in the DC
CD AP document

http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/metadata/dcmi/collection-ap-summary/

i.e. custodialHistory, owner, isAvailableAt, hasDescription and
isDescriptionOf

I've started to prepare descriptions of each of those terms, following
the template in the Usage Board document above. I'll post the URLs of
each of those documents in separate messages to follow shortly,
including questions that have occurred to me as I've been writing them,
so that detailed discussion of each term proposal is broken out into a
separate thread.

Also at the Advisory Board meeting in Seattle, Makx urged us not to
assume too readily that terms are collection-specific, so over the next
couple of days I propose to produce similar documents for the terms that
we have currently classified as collection-specific.

i.e. accrualStatus, logo, accumulationDateRange, contentsDateRange,
hasPublication (?)

(Even if they are not submitted to Usage Board, I think that will be a
useful in developing our documentation of those terms.)

For the proposals that _are_ to be submitted to UB, we really need to
try to finalise these proposals by the end of this month at the latest,
so that they can be notified to the Directorate and to UB and made
available for a period of public comment in advance of the UB meeting.

Cheers

Pete
