italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
re: travel to Ireland by Italians in Middle Ages
There is an entire "book" of _Guerrino Meschino_ by Andrea da Barberino (d.
1431 ca.) where the hero sails to Ireland, past various islands, and then
visits the pilgrimage site of the "pozzo di San Patrizio." That was an
actual pilgrim site still active throughout most of the 15th century & only
close by a Pope in the late 1400s.
Mauro Cursietti has a nearly completed crit. edn. of Guerrino. Perhaps he
would share pertinent passages with you:

Otherwise, I have unedited transcription of a couple of mss. I could dig.
An older French literary source was Marie de France's Purgatory of St.
Patrick (has been translated into English), but there were also Italian
travel accounts, specifially one by a Florentine around 1413 or 1415 that
has details found in Andrea da Barberino's version. My bibliography is all
at home. Let me know if you want some article titles.
