Hello everyone
IGC 32 in Florence - Structural geology symposium
G23.03 - Tectonic inversion processes and structural inheritance in mountain
belts.
Convenors Rob Butler (Leeds), Mario Grasso (Catania) and Enrico Tavarnelli
(Siena)
We have planned this session to examine the role of pre-existing features
(faults and other crustal heterogeneities together with stratigraphic
variations) in the evolution of zones of continental compressional
tectonics. We hope to attract scientists working in industry and academia
studying the broad fields of basin inversion and fault reactivation in
ancient and recent orogens, with the aim of promoting discussion on the
role and
controls of inversion processes during continental compressional
tectonicsg. Contributions based on seismic, field studies at different
scales and analogue physical and numerical modelling are welcome. Rod
Graham (Amerada Hess) has
agreed to give a keynote talk to set the session off. So this is a call for
further papers to provoke a lively debate on the issues.
You can check in on the IGC website:

Please, note that the Conference dates are 20-28th August 2004, and that
the DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION IS JANUARY 28TH, 2004.
The Geological Society of London has expressed an interest in editing a
collection of the contributions presented during our symposium within a
thematic Special Publication volume. We'll look into this further after the
abstract submission deadline, when the number of contributions submitted to
the symposium is established.
There are plenty of other structural/tectonic sessions too (some have
already been advertised on this mail list) so IGC32 should be a stimulating
event... but we look forward to receiving your contributions to our
symposium!!!
Best wishes,
Rob Butler, Mario Grasso and Enrico Tavarnelli
