The Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology, University College, London has
boxes that are available to schools with objects (mostly replicas) and info
for teachers. Devon County Council runs a similar service where boxes of
suitable material for different curriculum topics can be borrowed by
schools. Reading Museum has a schools service which used to loan objects.
We learned about these services when we were asked to conserve some of the
items after several years hard work. In some cases better display boxes to
minimise damage by mishandling was the answer.
