I recall seeing a weighbridge on/by a canal which actually weighed the boat in the water, by some 'magical' (mechanical) system - gears and levers no doubt!
Perhaps someone can remind me where this is and how it worked?
I recall that either 'arms' went out into the canal, or there was a water chamber arrangement.
Quite early I think.
