I looked at the applicability of barcodes or RFID tags in the Petrie
collection last year, I hope my report will be available on our website very
soon. I concluded that it was a bit early to invest in RFID, but that
barcodes would prove very useful, particularly as we are planning to
relocate the museum in the next few years and machine-readable tags should
greatly assist object tracking. I am currently undertaking a conservation
audit of the collection (approx 80000 objects), and a barcode tag is being
allocated to each object as it is inspected - done over 40000 so far.
