BLACK COUNTRY URBAN HISTORIC LANDSCAPE CHARACTERISATION; PROJECT OFFICER; FULL TIME; FIXED TERM - 2 years; SCALE 6/SO1 (£19,185 - £22,689)
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated qualified archaeologist or similar professional to carry out the Black Country Urban Historic Landscape Characterisation, as part of the English Heritage-funded HLC programme. Based within Wolverhampton City Council as part of the Black Country Archaeological Service you will undertake data-gathering from a wide range of cartographic and documentary sources in order to produce a characterisation of the historic landscape of the four Black Country boroughs of Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton. This will take the form of digital mapping with associated commentaries.
The post will suit someone with an interest in the post-medieval, industrial and recent landscape, good attention to detail and the ability to liase and work with other archaeologists and conservation professionals. You will need a demonstrable ability to achieve work to timetable and budget. Ideally you will have a good working knowledge of GIS and of the historic environment and the machinery that exists for its protection.
