in reply to the suggestion that Polka Road was a lovers' lane; No, it was the main road into the town possibly widened to approach the railway station, and the change of name appears to be a deliberate council renaming, so unlikely.
As for Edith Sitwell, she was parodying an older song - You should see me dance the polka, you should see my coat tails fly.....for the polka is the jolliest dance I know. Frank Muir revived it in the sixties
