CHESTER CITY COUNCIL
SENIOR ARCHAEOLOGIST (FIELDWORK)
£19,185 - £20,469 (SUBJECT TO JOB EVALUATION)
Chester City Council is seeking to appoint an outstanding field
archaeologist to its archaeological team. Building on the work we have
jointly undertaken on the site during the last few years, the Council and
English Heritage have embarked on an ambitious 2 ½ year programme of
research and seasonal excavation at the amphitheatre site. The main duty of
the post will be to co-direct the fieldwork alongside Tony Wilmott of
English Heritage. Input to other elements of work in the Archaeological
Service will also be required.
We are looking for a well-qualified person with extensive experience of
directing complex multi-period urban excavations and a proven track record
in post-excavation/report writing/publication. The ability to communicate
the results of the work to a variety of audiences is important as well as
good organisational and people skills.
The appointment will be for 3 years, with opportunities beyond this period
dependent on funding and future developments at the amphitheatre. The
successful candidate will be expected to start asap in order to prepare for
the commencement of fieldwork in June 2004.
