I'm crossposting to UTSG, as I know of (and have seen) a map British
Rail produced for its InterCity business, showing places at a distance
according to the fastest train time from London. Unfortunately I don't
have it.
Of course, some of these have now changed (as with the West Coast
upgrade which has taken half an hour or more off trips between London
and Manchester/Liverpool/Preston/Glasgow). London to Leicester is also
quicker than it once was, taking just over an hour for 99 miles.
What I don't know (because I've never played with a GIS to distort
maps) is if it would be possible to make one given the data in
something like ArcGIS/MapInfo/GRASS.
