FRISNO 8 - first circular and call for papers
Dear friends and colleagues,
FRISNO-8, the 8th European/French Israeli Symposium on Nonlinear and
quantum Optics, will be held in Ein Bokek, on the shores of the Dead Sea in
Israel on February 20-25, 2005 ( www.weizmann.ac.il/frisno ). We resume
the schedule of alternating between France and Israel every two years. The
meeting will maintain its broad spectrum of topics and will provide an
excellent opportunity to renew old contacts and form new ones. We sincerely
hope you will be joining us in Ein Bokek next February to present your
latest results.
A very preliminary list of speakers includes: Phil Bucksbaum, Claude Cohen-
Tannoudji, Serge Haroche, Ferenc Krausz, Mikhail Lukin, Eric Mazur, Shaul
Mukamel, Daniel Zajfman. Frisno-8 will maintain the tradition of selecting
most of the oral presentations from amongst the abstract submissions,
ensuring a constant renewals of speakers and opportunities to young
scientists. Based on previous experience, the informal atmosphere
generated very successful poster sessions, and all participants are
encouraged to submit more than one abstract, so that part of their work may
be presented in a poster session. All submissions will be considered by
the scientific committee, and a final program will be announced well in
advance of the meeting itself.
As in the past, the main sessions for oral presentations will be held in
the mornings and in the late afternoons, and the evenings will be dedicated
to the poster sessions. The afternoons will be free for binary or many-body
interactions, while exploring the beautiful scenery of the Judean desert
and the fascinating Dead Sea. Now is the time to prepare your abstracts,
and send it to [log in to unmask] at the earliest possible date, but
certainly not later than the deadline of December 1, 2004.
The organizing committee managed to secure some financial support for a
limited number of students. All students are invited to apply for financial
help. Decisions on financial help will be announced with the acceptance
note of the contributions.
Last but not least, Ein Bokek is a unique resort on the shores of the Dead
Sea, the lowest elevation on this planet at around 392 meters below sea
level. The magic Nirvana hotel ( www.nirvana.co.il ) is literally on the
sea shore, offering excellent spa facilities (free with registration ! )
and immediate access to the Dead Sea.
