Shaw Cross Colliery, near Dewsbury, was sunk by Crawshaw & Warburton around
1876 and closed by the National Coal Board in late August 1968. It worked a
number of seams, but mainly the Black Bed and Beeston coals. The site was
cleared in the early 1970s (i.e. 1971-2 when I regularly drove past from the
M1 junction and saw it getting smaller).
