Hello everybody
Can anyone - particularly from a small-medium size museum, either in or
outside of London, offer some advice on hosting of a museum website. We
would like to hear from you if you have experience of having your site
hosted by a commercial site web server company. Do you recommend it? What
are the downsides? Are there any companies that specialise in this for the
museum sector?
A bit of background:
The Postal Heritage Trust was set up in April 2004 to care for and develop
the archive and object collections of Royal Mail. Previously, a unit of
Royal Mail itself had done this work, but the Trust was deliberately
created to be a separate entity. However, we are still linked, including
our webpages being part of the Royal Mail group site.
What we want to do is to be able to update our webpages frequently and
quickly - simple stuff like changing text and images, adding a few pages if
need be. Doing this within Royal Mail is proving too expensive and
complicated, so we want to know if it's feasible to take our pages to be
hosted elsewhere.
Any suggestions as to likely cost, pitfalls to avoid and companies to try
are all welcome.

wants me to provide a digest of responses please let me know.
Thanks
Steve
PS I'll be posting this to a couple of other listerves so apologies if you
get this more than once.
