Ken,
at this pricepoint, the choice is quite limited.
The deciding factor will be the size of your glass negatives/slides. If
these are not too large, say no more that 1/4plate or 5x4 then you should
do really well with one of the best of the Epson Consumer range. I would
happily recommend the Epson 4870 Stylus Perfection Photo. This will give
good scans for smaller negs and quite adequate scans from very small (35mm
slides). It is also fine for reflective artwork.
If your negs/slides are larger, I am afraid that I don't think they will
fit on the Epson 4870 as although it is an A4 scanner, the transparency
scanning area is much smaller. In this case you could go for one of the
cheaper scanners from the Epson Professional range. The Epson Expression
1680 XL with transparency hood will scan up to A4 original negs/slides and
will give fine results with reflective artwork, but might well struggle
with 35mm trannies a bit. This is also stretching your budget a bit.
Of course once you spend a bit more money the choice widens.
Hope this helps
cheers
eib
