HELLO!
Thank you for all the kind words of support about our website from
the list.
Here at Framley Museum we pride ourselves at being at the forefront
of modern museum practise. In the 70s we had our very successful
"Bring Your Rubbish to the Museum" weeks - the proceeds of those
still pay for staff tea and biscuits. In the 80s had a "Care in the
Museum" scheme - some of us still work for the Museum!
For those who questioned our use of The Devil as our Kids Klub page
mascot, you need to know that we have the largest Satanist community
in the UK and so it's part of our Social Inclusion policy. Indeed we
have a number of Satanist volunteers working at the museum; they were
very helpful with the design and building of our interactive
displays, especially the ones with the blades.
There have been teething problems with Satanist participation as
volunteers, like them insisting in signing in blood on the Volunteer
Copyright Waiver (You all DO have such waivers for your museums?),
but we all have to understand other people's cultures. Indeed it's
all a matter of checks and balances. Out of respect the 'majority
community' we did install the flashing red lights on the interactives
and drew the line at using Beelzebub the Horned Goat as our mascot.
Also thought you'd like to hear about our new collecting area - The
Museum Professional's Collection. The aim is build up a collection of
material about the role of the museum professional. We are on the
look out for suitable objects. Already we have acquired a 19th
century stuffed and mounted curator - who says old curators have to
let go! - have you anything you could send us or suggest? We are
hoping to have the collection Designated - "A great wheeze to get
money!" as our chairman of trustees says. Our first exhibition in the
area will be entitled - "Before the Collection Policy". This will
feature the weird and wonderful things curators collected in the
past, often for no apparent reason.
Debbie - I'm still waiting to here about my application for the post
of Treasurer of MCG? - I can confirm the courts say I AM allowed to
handle money in bank accounts again.
Finally I have to thank Gordon for allowing me to use his membership
of MCG to communicate with you - we are having trouble with our ISP -
Demon.

NB. I have edited Dan's message to remove the difficulties caused by
of him having been given a portable with a non-UK keyboard.
