STUDY TRIP TO GENEVA JOIN THE TEAM - BE PART OF THE ACTION
On 16, 17 and 18 November 2004, PHR-UK will be in Geneva to observe the UN
Committee against Torture (CAT) discuss with UK officials the UKs report on
its compliance with the Convention against Torture. PHR-UK will provide
information to the Committee.
PHR-UK Senior Advisor Bernie Hamilton will lead this trip, and be there
from Monday to Friday to observe CAT and the Committee on Economic, Social
and Cultural Rights (CESCR) at work. He will be able to take about six
students with him, and welcomes applications. Applications will be
considered until the course is full, but not beyond Friday 29 October for
security reasons.
This is the 16th consecutive Study Trip. These arrangements are based on
last Mays visit.
The estimated cost of Geneva travel, insurance and accommodation is £300.00

WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID ABOUT RECENT GENEVA STUDY TRIPS:
" The trip to Geneva really put International Law in general and Human
Rights advocacy in particular in perspective for me. Contrary to what I had
envisaged, we were not only observing Committee meetings and 'taking in the
atmosphere', as it were - we were also engaging in conversation with
Committee members, learned members of the legal profession, and other
observers and advocats... in short, it was more than worth the money.
Perhaps less to the point but just as importantly: it was brilliant fun as
well."
- AB University of Essex
"I just wanted to thank you again for the amazing week in Geneva. It is
rare to learn so much in such a short space of time and to have enjoyed
oneself so much also. My colleagues have also been very impressed with the
list of people you arranged for us to meet."
- GH Belfast
"These trips provide a fascinating and unique opportunity for students to
watch and engage with the UN's process of monitoring each countrys
observance of human rights" - Dr. Peter Hall, Chair PHR-UK
