This is a time of grieving for all people in the United States who have a
commitment to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and traditions of
humane government. Surely this includes people on the left, but how left
wing do you have to be to want to see a President in office who isn't
constantly engaged in the Big Lie? Moreover, I find it bizarre that anyone
who saw what actually happened in this country believes that the Democrats
and the numerous organizations working with them did not get voters to the
polls. The voters were there, waiting in long lines, sometimes in the rain
and often abused but not giving in. The Democrats had legions of poll
watchers, thousands of phone banks, one of which I hosted, calling voters
to get out the vote, and crews of filmmakers watching the polls. The exit
polls indicated that Kerry had the edge. We need to search elsewhere for
the reasons why the final count of the votes came out the way it did.
As regards apologies to this list, I can't help wondering what the apology
is for. I know you are mourning, as I am, Robert, but if you fought the
good fight as I did, I can't imagine why you wouldn't ask for fellowship,
as I do now, and not only with the left, in this truly terrible moment in
American history.
