Current research includes the development of the Universal Virtual Computer (in co-operation with IBM Netherlands), the development of emulation as a preservation strategy (in co-operation with the Dutch National Archives), research into long-term preservation of file formats and the registration of preservation metadata.
JOB DETAILS As Digital Preservation Officer you will act as a project leader and share responsibility for the R&D programme concerning digital preservation. You will advise KB management and develop ideas and execute projects for permanent access solutions for the e-Depot, either experimental or practical. You will be responsible for the maintenance of a virtual knowledge center on digital preservation and contribute to international working groups. You will present project activities and research results at international conferences and publish on this subject in national and international journals. In short, you will become one of the KB-experts on digital preservation.
SKILLS REQUIRED You should be able to demonstrate interest in the long-term archiving and preservation of electronic publications and digital collections. Even more: you consider it your mission to keep digital information accessible forever and you have a vision on how to achieve that. You can transform abstract concepts into practical steps and you are capable of explaining (verbally and in writing) the complexity of digital preservation, both to the general public and to a specialised audience. You have experience in project management and you can show evidence of having excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Advanced understanding of computer technology is desirable. Communication skills as well as language skills (English), both verbally and in writing, are required. Finally, you should be self-reliant as well as a team player who is both flexible and committed.
BENEFITS The CAO (Collective Labour Agreement) of Dutch Research Institutions is applicable. According to this CAO, the gross monthly salary is a minimum of (€ 2884,-) and a maximum of € 3.963,- (scale 11 full time, excl. 8% holiday bonus and 4,1% 'December bonus').
