A colleague writes concerning a bank:
: A couple of weeks ago I received a (personal) bank statement
: showing a credit from a firm identified only by initials and I
: couldn't immediately identify who it was. In fact I was able to
: work it out eventually but my immediate reaction was to write
: to my bank asking them if they could provide further details of
: the credit.
:
: This was the reply:
:
: "I regret that due to the Data Protection Act we are not able
: to offer any information concerning the origin of the funds."
:
: ISTM that there's something amiss if *my own bank* can't tell
: me who is transferring funds into *my* account.
I've always held that two of the greatest lies ever told were:
- "I love you my darling..."
- "The cheque is in the post..."
Sometime soon I may be adding "I'd be breaching the Data Protection Act if I
told you..." to the list :-(
