OK -- it's comforting to know that the mpi/mpich compatibility
issue -- which exists even with Intel x86 chips, depending on
compilation vs. runtime environment -- is still solvable when
Opteron/64-bit is added into the mix, even though it's a
bit of a mess even without adding this new element. :-)
