Dear all,
The National Railway Museum is about to make available in our Reading Room a
set of 500 oral history recordings (250 have transcripts) of former railway
employees ranging from senior management of British Rail to drivers of steam
locomotives and drawing office employees. We are anticipating that these
recordings will be of considerable interest to academics, media companies
and people generally interested in railway history, indeed we have already
had a request for a copy of a recording of the reminiscences of a driver of
the first steam engine to reportedly break the 100mph barrier.
We want these tapes to be as widely accessible as possible, so does anyone,
particularly colleagues in sound archives, have a copy of their scale of
charges for copies, reproduction and transmission fees, etc. that they could
let me have sight of? This is the first OH collection that the NRM is
making available, so any useful experiences that people have had in
administering similar collections in a non-sound archive-specific
environment would be gratefully received.
Please reply off-line, and I'll summarise the answers for the list.
Yours sincerely,
Tim Procter
